Comprehensive Assessment

Every child learns differently. A psychoeducational assessment explores your child’s cognitive, academic, social, and emotional development to understand both their strengths and the areas where they may need more support.

This process can identify learning disabilities (including dyslexia), ADHD, anxiety, autism, and giftedness, and it provides a clear roadmap for meaningful support at school and at home.

I also offer private school entrance evaluations, providing the cognitive and academic testing many independent schools require as part of their admissions process

The Assessment Journey

Free Consultation & Intake Call

Start with a complimentary call to share your concerns, ask questions, and learn whether a psychoeducational assessment is the right next step for your child.

Focused Testing

Testing happens in a safe, low-pressure environment. We explore cognitive processing, academic skills, and emotional wellbeing through standardized assessments and tasks tailored to your child's age and specific areas identified during the clinical interview.

Feedback & Roadmap

We conclude with a comprehensive review of results. You'll receive a detailed report with assessment results and  practical steps for home and school to help your child thrive based on their unique profile.

Structured Clinical Interview

Next, I meet with parents—and with your child when age appropriate—to gather a deeper developmental, social-emotional, behavioral, and educational history.

Assessment FAQs

What is a psychoeducational assessment?

Every assessment is tailored to your child and the questions you bring. For one child, we might focus on memory and how they retrieve information; for another, we might explore social skills and peer relationships. Our initial conversation helps shape exactly which areas we assess. From there, we look at cognitive abilities, academic skills, and emotional factors together to understand why your child may be struggling and, most importantly, how to help them thrive.

Common questions from parents about what to expect during a psychoeducational assessment, from the first meeting to receiving the final report.

How long does the testing process take?

The in-person portion of testing typically takes 4 to 6 hours. To keep your child comfortable and performing at their best, we break this time into sessions of about 2 hours, scheduled at the time of day that works best for them and adjusted for their age and needs.

The assessment also includes rating scales completed by parents, teachers (with your signed permission), and, when age-appropriate, your child. These questionnaires can be filled out on each person’s own schedule.

What is the goal of an assessment?

An assessment offers insight into what may be affecting your child at home, at school, and in their community. While the process may result in one or more diagnoses that help explain your child’s needs, diagnosis isn’t the main goal. The goal is to understand your child well enough to identify the best next steps for supporting their growth, with clear, practical recommendations you can put into action.
